October 10, 2012

  • Volleyball Tryouts - Any (7th and 8th grade) cheerleader who is interested in trying out for volleyball must attend volleyball tryouts on Monday and Tuesday (this is because of the football game on Wednesday). For everyone else, tryouts are as follows: 7th grade - Monday and Tuesday of next week; 8th grade - Wednesday and Thursday of next week.  Tryouts will last from 3:20 - 5:30 each day.  For other questions, please see Mrs. Robinson.
  • Wrestling - There will be no wrestling practice on Thursday.  
  • Early Dismissal - Students will be dismissed at 1pm tomorrow for parent/teacher conferences.

  • Students...wear orange tomorrow to show that you are against all forms of bullying!
  • Parent/Teacher Conferences are this Thursday...students will be released at 1pm.  Please call 704-476-8340 to make an appointment.
  • Progress reports were sent home with students today.  
  • End of the first nine weeks is coming up on October 26th.  
  • Fall picture proofs were sent home with students.  If you would like to purchase pictures, money and picture form should be returned to the student's WIN teacher.  Make-up day is November 6th. 
  • Report cards will be issued on November 6th.
  • We still have chocolate to sell.  If you would like to help us raise money for technology, please see Mrs. England in the front office.  Our goal is to sell at least 350 boxes.  That would allow us to raise $10,500!  Prizes will be awarded to the top sales person in each grade.  We will also put the name of each person that sells at least one box into a drawing for additional prizes. 
  • Yearbooks are also on sale.  There is ordering information on our school website.  Get your book while supplies last...and before the price goes up!

October 5th

  • October is National Bully Prevention Month and KMMS is going to stand united against bullying by wearing ORANGE to school on Wednesday, October 10th. 
  • Students will be dismissed at 1pm on October 11th for parent/teacher conferences.  Please call 704-476-8340 to schedule a conference.
  • 8th graders will watch a performance sponsored by the Art's Council at 9:30 on Tuesday, October 9th in the gym.
  • Students who have not been approved for free and reduced priced meals for the (2012-2013) school year, will begin paying full price for meals on Tuesday, October 9th.  All households are mailed notification letters when their application is processed.  Parents should contact Child Nutrition immediately at 704-476-8127 if they have any concerns about their students status. 
  • Coming up this next week: 10/8 Softball/Soccer at home vs Burns; Golf at KMCC (make-up match) - 10/9 Softball/Soccer at NL; Golf at Riverbend - 10/10 Football at WL; Softball/Soccer at EL
  • Rock and Fun Day - reward for fall sales will be on 10/26 during PE class.
  • KM defeated Lincolnton 12-1 yesterday.  Kassidy Hamrick pitched a complete game for the Patriots.  Ashton Withers had 4 hits.  Madison Hoyle had a triple.  Briasia White and Destiny Hamrick Hamrick had doubles.  Next game is Monday at home vs. Burns.
  • The top 3, and 5 of the top 10 girl cross country runners in the conference this year are from Kings Mountain Middle.  Kaitlyn Moss crossed the line on the 2-mile Kings Mountain course in first place, followed by Virginia Dellinger in second, and Meridith Wyte in third.  Kayla Capps finished ninth, and Brooke Patterson tenth, followed by Montanna Smith, Carmen Henwood, and Ashley Sprenger all in the top 22 out of a field of 90 runners.  The girls finished first in each meet this season, after a second place finish in the conference last year.

     The boys team was led by Austin McKee in sixth, Landon Ervin in twentieth.  Others scoring for KMMS were Lane Bell, Bryson Key, and Michael Sparks.  
  • Picture proofs will be given to students on Monday.  They must return the form with the money to purchase pictures.

    Jake Merchant  had 3 TD  30yd passing TD and 2 rushing TD.  Kavin Mosely  had 2 TD  65yd passing TD and a Defensive fumble return for TD.  Darrren Burns had 1 rushing and 2 passing TD.  Patriots scored on first three possesions and never looked back leading at half 30-6.  Defense played great as a team causing 3 fumbles and interception.
