  • KM High School Orientation - Monday, February 3, 2014 - High school orientation for 8th grade students and their parents - There will be a tour of elective classes from 6-6:50pm...and there will be a parent meeting from 7-8pm. All 8th graders will register for their high school courses the following week.  Attending this meeting at the high school on February 3rd will give more meaning to their decision making.

  • Early College High School Information Session - The principal from the ECHS will be here on Thursday, January 30th during WIN to speak with 8th grade students that are interested in attending the ECHS next year. 
  • Report Cards - will be sent home with students on Thursday, January 30th.
  • KMMS Backpack Program - Our school utilizes a backpack program to minister to families in need.  Six to ten backpacks of food are sent home with students each weekend.  Our program operates on donations. We are currently in need of the following items: spaghetti noodles, peanut butter, pop tarts, canned chicken, and snacks (crackers, fruit cups, raisins, etc.).  Donations may be turned into the front office.  Thank you for your support!
  • Landry T-Shirts - If you ordered a Landry t-shirt in the first order, please stop by the KMMS front office to pick up your shirt. If anyone is still interested in ordering a shirt, please place your order online or in the front office.  Thank you so much!

  • Landry T-Shirts - Those who ordered shirts may pick them up in the front office. The students that ordered shirts will receive them on Thursday morning during WIN class (if they paid in advance).  We are going to extend the date for ordering shirts and will place the next order on February 7th.  We do have a few extra adult sizes (small-XL).  Those will be sold on a first come first serve basis. Landry is an 8th grade student at KMMS that is currently battling cancer.  This is a way for us to show our support for him.  All proceeds will go to the Crawford family to help with medical expenses.  Orders may be placed in the front office or online.  Those who place an order online may pay when the shirt is picked up...or the order may be placed online and the money sent to KMMS. The last order will be placed on February 7th.

  • Dress Code - Students are not allowed to wear jeans with holes above the knee with nothing underneath them (skin showing).  The first violation will be a warning.  Second violation will be 3 PE detention, and third violation will be a day of ISS.  Students not complying with dress code will be sent to Mrs. Crawford's office to correct the issue.  This may mean that he/she will have to call home for appropriate clothing. Leggings are also against school dress code unless they are worn under clothing that meets dress code.  This could include shirts that are at least finger tip length or longer. 
  • Teacher Workdays - Friday, Jan. 17th and Tuesday, Jan 21st
  • Martin Luther King Holiday - Monday, Jan. 20th

  • Mauney Memorial Library - is looking for volunteers to help them this summer.  Their summer reading program, Boom Read, is designed to encourage children to continue reading during vacation so that valuable reading skills won't be lost.  Programs for children are scheduled on weekdays during morning hours.  If you are interested in helping and will be 14 years of age and a high school student, please see Mrs. McKee at KMMS or Anne Gamble at Mauney Memorial for a form.  The form must be filled out and returned to the library by March 1, 2014.  Interviews will begin the week of March 10th.  For more information, call the 704-739-2371 Ext. 2.

  • Due to the forecast for extremely low temperatures, Cleveland County Schools will operate on a two-hour delay Wednesday, January 8th. 
  • Think Again Contest - The Cleveland County Substance Abuse Coalition, along with the Cleveland County Health Department and the Alliance for Health in Cleveland County, are please to announce the 2nd Annual Think Again! Video Contest for 7th-12th grade students in Cleveland County.
    The Think Again! Video Contest is an open competition to all 7th-12th grade students to form teams of up to 5 people and to film a video, up to one (1) minute, centered around one of 5 drug abuse prevention themes: If you think most most kids do drugs think again! If you think most kids smoke marijuana, think again! If you think legal can’t be lethal, think again! If you think most kids drink, think again! If you think doing drugs isn’t risky, think again!  Prizes: First place team wins $500. 2nd place team wins $300. 3rd place team wins $200.  For more info visit the contest website.  January 22nd:  Application packets will be available at all Cleveland County High and Middle schools or you can download them from this page.  February 28th:  Team application packets are due to Henry Earle at the health department (315 East Grover Street Shelby, NC 28150).  March 28th:  Completed videos are due.  April 29th:  Awards banquet where winners will be announced.

  • Basketball - County Scrimmage on January 4th - Boys @ KMMS and Girls at Burns - Girls will play Shelby at 11am and Crest at 12pm - Boys will play Crest at 10am and Shelby at 1pm.  Regular season will kick off on 1/7 with KM playing Shelby at home starting at 4pm.  They will be at home again on 1/9 against Burns.

  • New Assistant Principals - Mrs. Carrie Knotts joined the Patriot team just before the Christmas break.  She will be the 8th grade assistant principal.  Mr. Ruppe, who was formerly one of our 8th grade science teachers, has moved into the interim 7th grade assistant principal position. Samantha Williams is our new Supernova science teacher.  
  • Students of the Month for December - The character trait for the month of December is "Service to Others/Kindness." The following students were nominated by their teachers for demonstrating service to others at Kings Mountain Middle School:  (Front Row) Destiny Hill - Supernovas, Patrick Burton - Marlins, Leeasia Rhodes - Titans; (Back Row) Dustin Parker - Waveriders, Jada Roberts - Rockets, Jasmine Guy - Stingrays; (Not Pictured) Rahheim Moore - Voyagers.  Monthly winners are announced around the 15th of each month.  
  • Teacher of the Month for December - Mr. Rupp was selected by students at Kings Mountain Middle School as the December "Teacher of the Month."  Mr. Rupp teaches a lab class, Technology Design and Innovation, at KMMS.  He attended Gardner-Webb University where he received a B.A. in Middle Grades Education with concentrations in Math and Science.  He also attended American College of Education where he received his M.A. degree in Educational Technology.  He also sponsors the Robotics Club that was established last year.  He works with teams of students that use their knowledge of robotics to complete against other schools.  Mr. Rupp enjoys playing music and spending time with his family.
  • Career Cruising - Prior to the holiday break, 8th grade students participated in Career Cruising.  This is a program that helps them to begin thinking about career pathways that they may choose when registering for 9th grade later in the year.  There is more information on our website.  Your student should have a username and password that will allow him/her to go back and access their personal information.  
  • Patriot Gear for Sale - We have some neat Patriot gear for sale in the front office...T-shirts, sweatshirts, and hats.  There is an additional hat that is not on the website.  The cost for it is $20.
